Our History
History of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church
Little is known of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church prior to 1899, other than that it was already a thriving congregation located at Eighth Street and Rosedale Road. What is clear, however, is that the founders and faithful members who followed were truly committed to fulfilling the teachings of Jesus Christ.
In 1899, the church was reorganized under the leadership of the Fourth District Baptist Association, with Rev. A. A. Ginn serving as Pastor. During these early years, leaders such as Bro. Frank Spears, Sis. Laura Walker, and Sis. Hester Joseph laid a firm foundation of service and dedication.
By 1900, land was purchased from the Benevolent Society for a permanent sanctuary, and the church was officially chartered. Over the decades, faithful servants continued to strengthen Shiloh through ministry, leadership, and community impact.
Key milestones include:
- 1934–1954 – Rev. T. R. Provost pastored faithfully, leading the church through a re-charter of 99 years.
- 1954–1988 – Rev. Isaiah Warner guided the congregation for 34 years, overseeing membership growth, building projects, and the purchase of additional land. Under his leadership, a new sanctuary was built and the mortgage was burned in less than 10 years.
- 1988–1990 – Rev. Freddie Riley served briefly before resigning.
- 1991–2000 – Rev. Alvin L. Green, Sr. emphasized missions, outreach, and Christian education, expanding the church’s property and resources before being called home to be with the Lord.
- 2001–Present – Rev. Raymond Allen, Sr. was elected Pastor. Under his leadership, Sunday attendance and membership have increased, new ministries were organized, and in 2004 additional property was purchased. Shiloh continues to expand its mission with a focus on youth, Christian education, and community impact.
In 2012, plans were developed for a modern Fellowship Hall—designed with classrooms, offices, a commercial kitchen, and media-equipped reception space—furthering the church’s vision of growth and service.
